Henri Moissan was picking through the floor of a meteor crater in the Arizona desert when he found crystals that cut glass. He thought he had found diamonds. He had not. He had found something rarer, and for the next hundred years the only known source of it was a rock that fell from space.
We named nothing after ourselves. The stone was already named after him.

Moissanite bends light harder than a diamond does. Its refractive index is 2.65 against a diamond's 2.42, and it splits light into colour at more than twice the rate. That rainbow flash across a room is not marketing. It is physics.
We will also tell you what it is not. A diamond is harder, at 10 on the Mohs scale against moissanite's 9.25. What moissanite has instead is no cleavage plane, the flaw that lets a diamond split along a line if it is struck badly.

Yes. Moissanite sits at 9.25 on the Mohs scale, second only to diamond, and it has no cleavage plane, which is the flaw that lets a diamond chip if it is struck badly. It will not cloud, go dull, or need re-cutting. The silver around it is solid sterling, not plated, so it will not wear through to something else underneath.
How do I know what it's worth?

Doesn't silver tarnish?
