Yes. Moissanite sits at 9.25 on the Mohs scale, second only to diamond, and it has no cleavage plane, which is the flaw that lets a diamond chip if it is struck badly. It will not cloud. It will not go dull. It does not need re-cutting. The silver around it is solid sterling, not plated, so it will not wear through to something else underneath.

“How do I know what it’s worth?”

The price is on the page. There is nothing to haggle down, because there is no inflated number sitting there waiting to be discounted. Every stone is graded independently and arrives with its certificate, so you know exactly what you bought, and so does she.

“Doesn’t silver tarnish?”

Yes, and we would rather say so now than have you find out in March. It is not damage. It is silver reacting with air, and it lifts off in thirty seconds with the cloth we put in the box. Anyone selling you silver that never tarnishes is selling you plating over something cheaper, and when that plating wears through, what is underneath is not silver. Henri Moissan was picking through the floor of a meteor crater in the Arizona desert when he found crystals that cut glass. He thought he had found diamonds. He had not. He had found something rarer, and for the next hundred years the only known source of it was a rock that fell from space.

Moissanite bends light harder than a diamond does. Its refractive index is 2.65 against a diamond’s 2.42, and it splits light into colour at more than twice the rate. That rainbow flash across a room is not marketing. It is physics.

We will also tell you what it is not. A diamond is harder, at 10 on the Mohs scale against moissanite’s 9.25. What moissanite has instead is no cleavage plane, the flaw that lets a diamond split along a line if it is struck badly.
